“Weeks before my son passed away, we still believed he would get better.” Semper Fi, Marine!
“We hoped he would recover from his second brain surgery and have a good life again. He wanted to live. He fought so bravely. As his mother, I have never been prouder of my son.
A little backstory about this picture—this is from his physical therapy session. The therapist asked him to sit on the side of the bed, but Michael, using all the strength he had left, chose to STAND and SALUTE.
My dad was there, helping his only grandson through therapy. When he saw what Michael was doing, he knew this moment was important and asked for a picture to be taken. (I’m so grateful he did. My dad isn’t one to take pictures, but even he knew this one mattered.)
This is a photo of a UNITED STATES MARINE showing his respect with the last bit of energy he had left in this world.”
